PostHeaderIcon Patchwork Quilting with Lucille Ball!

Patchwork Quilting Lucy QuiltWhile Lucy was made to do many things in her “I Love Lucy” career as far as I know Lucille Ball did not do patchwork quilting.

BUT she has been memorialized in many ways, INCLUDING patchwork quilting! I know because I made this quilt!  She is made of entirely raw edged applique and done entirely by machine. Even her “binding”, which we will be discussing shortly, because I promised and forgot, is entirely raw edged!

Lucy brought me lots of compliments over the years as she presided over the game room in our last home…  Lisa, eat your heart our, maybe one day she will belong to YOU!  <wink, wink>

I brought this out to share with all of you on the anniversary of Lucille Ball’s death, April 26th, 1989.  Gone, but certainly NOT forgotten!

PostHeaderIcon Patchwork Quilting Trail on the Road Again

Patchwork Quilting Trail Chicken BarnIndulge me today… my kitchen is decorated using primitive chickens as an accessory… not cutesy chickens, not just any chickens… so I just loved it when I saw a barn that featured an apparently appliquéd chicken quilt!  You do NOT see many of these!  You can simply CLICK on the PICTURE to see the entire barn…

Hope you are having a absolutely lovely Sunday!  It was supposed to be dreary & thunderstorm all day today here in Virginia, and we lucked out and the sun is even out now!  YAY!

See you tomorrow for some “electrifying” NEWS!

PostHeaderIcon Patchwork Quilting in Paducah!

Since I cannot be in Paducah this year I am going to live vicariously through the following video & share it with YOU!  I WAS in Paducah the year Caryl (who is an absolutely WONDERUL person and FABULOUS patchwork quilting artist) won Best of Show.  I will never forget walking through the center doors into the Executive Inn Exhibit Hall and seeing her quilt… MAGNIFICENT!    So spend a couple minutes… in Paducah, and with Caryl, this morning!

p.s. its really not hard to quilt your handwriting into your quilts… it became one of my signature touches in my art quilts, I journal onto the quilt, dropping the feeddogs, and freehand quilting as I go…. you can do it too!  It just takes practice!

PostHeaderIcon The Patchwork Quilting Trail goes to PADUCAH!

Patchwork Quilting Trail amongst the FlowersThis particular barn made me think of patchwork quilting in the SPRING!  For many years that meant gathering up all my friends and heading off to Paducah Kentucky for the big AQS Quilt SHOW!  Well it opens TOMORROW!  No, I won’t be there this year, and neither, I understand, will it be held in the Executive Inn, which has been closed awaiting renovating into some other life.

Some other life… and lifetime… I absolutely loved going to the Paducah show!  We stayed right in the Executive Inn, having worked our way through what was then a lottery system and stayed there year after year.  It was fun to be right amongst the action!  They used to hold the Fairfield Fashion show in the courtyard where we always had rooms and we would watch from our two room “suite” hosting a cocktail party while enjoying the show!  During those years I went from watching in awe, to modeling, to actually designing garments for the Fairfield Fashion Show for five (5) years!  I also loved exhibiting my work in the show as well as helping friends in the vendor’s mall… we did it all, and miss it all!  So we will ALL watch with baited breath to see what quilt wins Best of Show tomorrow!

If YOU attend we would LOVE to see pics and hear all about it firsthand!
